Gloria Vanderilt; icon, mother & #girlboss

Born in New York in 1924, Gloria Vanderbilt grew up in France. At fifteen she shot her first Harper's Bazaar shoot and later went on to appear in Vogue and Vanity Fair. Following her artistic passions Vanderbilt exhibited in a gallery, starred in theatre shows and published a poetry book.

Gloria Vanderbilt then went on to produce her fashion and textile designs that would earn her the 1969 Neiman Marcus Fashion Award, before opening the door to a line of ready-to-wear garmenrs in the mid 1970s. Under her GV brand, she'd go on to sell millions of pairs of jeans bearing her signature and trademark swan logo.

The team at #clutchbagsdotcom doesn't just believe in paying tribute to Gloria as a fashion icon, we believe whole-heartedly in her #girlboss attitude and creativity through thick and thin.

Four marriages later she lost her husband and son but continuously believed love and fate were always around the corner. She never stopped being creative and busy in one way or another. Her passion for fashion, creativity and art drover her to the creation of her own clothing lines which became a staple in the wardrobes of American women.

Clutch Bags is all about supporting local female businesses, rooted in design and passion, so our tribute to Gloria Vanderbilt today is also a call to all budding female designers. Don't be afraid to get your business started at Clutch Made or join our #girlboss community at Clutch Bags. We foster emerging female designers who believe in making in the USA, just like Vanderbilt.
