Updated: Aug 24, 2022

The city that never sleeps has quite the list of some fun filled events for your summer. It's time to put on your favorite accessories and enjoy everything this wonderful city has to offer. That's why we at Clutch Bags New York have selected some of our favorite events below. Check it out!

Sun Sets at the MET

The Met Date Nights have been extremely popular with the young patrons, and it is currently hosting the Sun Sets, a weekly music series with a rotating lineup of DJs from the city's dance music underground. Sun Sets are free with Museum admission, which is always pay-what-you-wish for New York State residents and NY, NJ, and CT students with valid ID. Capacity is limited, and access is first come, first served.

Pop in The City

Imagine a huge inflatable structure smack-dab in the middle of Manhattan: that's exactly what Pop in the City is. Opening this Friday, August 5 through August 28, it is located on Broadway between 32nd St and 33rd St in the heart of midtown Manhattan. The custom-built installation is a 120-foot-long walk-through experience featuring a variety of sections, each one “abstract and somewhat surreal representation of New York, it’s people and it’s culture”, according to their press release. You can buy a ticket for the experience right here.

House Fest

From August 5 to 7, Governors Island Arts will present a weekend-long event in the historic Nolan Park and Colonels Row, featuring free dance and music performances, outdoor installations, interactive workshops, open studios, panel discussions, and more. The biggest event during the festival is the new Dance Party NYC on Saturday, August 6, a city-wide dance party taking place on the same night across 80 locations throughout the five boroughs–including Nolan Park on Governors Island. Soundtracks will be provided by Brooklyn United Marching Band, Brass Queens, DJ Aguapanela Mami, and DJ Yung Mayne. See the full schedule here.

Rise Up NYC

All five boroughs will play host to a new free concert series dubbed Rise Up NYC scheduled to take over the town through September 12. Announced by Mayor Eric Adams, the show aims to encourage the New York citizens to enjoy what the city has to offer and reconnect with all of its cultural aspects, even after the plagues of the COVID-19 pandemic. "We are inviting all New Yorkers to come together to celebrate culture, music, and unity as New York City rebounds from the pandemic," said the politician in an official statement about the project. "Music and the arts were a lifeline for us all during the last two years, and I am here to say that New York City supports its local artists and communities. We are going to hit the right notes and turn the dial up to 11 this summer. We invite all New Yorkers to join us for world-class entertainment in the city that never sleeps." For more information about the concert series, including a list of artists that will be updated as each event gets closer, visit the ‘Rise Up NYC’ website.
